The client, an Italian fashion retailer at the global level, asked Optit to make its supply chain processes more efficient. In particular, the goal was to minimise the overall supply costs, from production to point of sale, while improving the level of service (with particular focus on fulfilling the retailers’ requests in terms of volume).

Our
solution

Optit developed customised analytic and optimisation components to support the diverse phases of the process of planning and distributing the products. Our goal was twofold: to define the quantity and sizes that should be produced for every article of clothing (by analysing the data from previous sales) and to minimise the overall distribution costs (by improving the “packing” using an optimisation model), while maintaining a high level of service to the retailers.
These components were provided to the client as services integrated into the systems and processes of the organisation, working in the background when orders are being made. The same algorithmic components were also used in simulations to perform various distribution scenario analyses. The solutions developed by Optit are working today to help deliver merchandise in all the 50 countries served by this client.
