https://decisionsciencealliance.org/The intuition that guided Optit’s early steps many years ago was to take the best of the sophisticated (and often incomprehensible) science of Operations Research, a branch of the broader Decision Science, and translate it into tools that can be used by businesses and organizations to improve decision-making and production processes.
On June 6th and 7th, the second International Summer Conference organized by the Decision Science Alliance was held in Valencia. This organization was founded by an international group of managers, entrepreneurs, professors, researchers, and Decision Science enthusiasts to promote an ecosystem of collaboration and learning.
The International Summer Conference is an event that includes topics such as mathematical optimization, operations research, artificial intelligence, robotics and automation, simulation and emulation, and the analysis and design of decision-making processes. The theme of the conference, “Empowering Human Decision Making In A Robotics & Data-Driven World,” attracted 165 participants from 11 countries.
Optit participated in two distinct moments: the round table “Boosting Decision Making with Artificial Intelligence” and the session “Optimization Algorithms for Decision Science I,” with the presentation “Trustworthiness of AI in Planning and Scheduling: The experience of the TUPLES project.”
It is increasingly evident that the large-scale adoption of AI tools will depend on how well model-based approaches can be integrated with data-based ones, while always keeping the human factor, that is, the needs for transparency, comprehensibility, and reliability, in the forefront. The EU TUPLES project, in which Optit is involved, deals precisely with the integration of these different aspects.
The conference was an excellent moment for networking and inspiration, integrating academic and industry contributions, showing how Decision Science is becoming increasingly relevant in supporting decision-making processes in both the public and private sectors. We are very proud to be part of this community which, year by year, is gaining more awareness and capacity.
