Optit and Operations Research at ODS2022

Like last years we participated and were proud supporters of ODS2022, the International Conference on Optimization and Decision Science, organized by AIRO, the Italian Association of Operations Research with the fundamental contribution of AIROYOUNG which gathers the young energies of this sector.

For us, being in Florence was a pleasant, useful and interesting opportunity to deepen knowledge, topics and meet again colleagues and researchers in the field of Operations Research (OR).

Optit was present with several interventions:

– two of our CEO Matteo Pozzi, the first dedicated to an overview of how we operate using the tools made available by operational research in our projects, the second on the interesting development aspects of the European project PlaMES

– then Caterina Tamburini spoke about energy in her talk “Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Systems Optimization in Presence of Time Binding Constraints”

– finally Antonio Napoletano addressed the issues related to logistics with “Vehicle routing at work: a real-world implementation and case studies”.

The central message conveyed by all keynote speakers, which we absolutely share, is the importance of addressing societal challenges by providing a measurable and relevant impact through operations research and analysis. This requires an increasing collaboration between universities, public bodies, private consulting and software companies, to involve the different parties and combine all possible and relevant skills (stakeholder engagement, data collection and processing, model and algorithm design, product engineering) .

A message that engages us in the challenges of the present but which for us is also full of positive hope for the future.
